Chemistry : Symbols and formula

Chemistry

Chemical symbols and formula

A)     Know the difference between the atoms, ions and molecules:

Atoms: the uncharged particles that are the building blocks of elements. Comprises of protons and neutrons in the nucleus orbited by electrons

Ions: A positively or negatively charged atom or covalently bonded group of atoms (a molecular ion)

Molecule:  The smallest part of a specific chemical compound, made up of covalently bonded atoms.

B)      Write formula for common ions and molecules

C)      Be able to use standard form

-A way of writing very large or very small numbers. When two numbers have the same power of ten they become easier to compare.
-e.g
                - 13000 = 1.3x10
                - 26.3x10⁴ = 2.63⁵
